Several decisions should be made in order to properly visualize the uncertain 3D location of the underground utilities. To do so, the team has been in conversations with people from the TU Delft that are experienced when it comes to visualize (fuzzy) 3D objects. Furthermore experiments in a 3D environment has been conducted constantly.
The figure below depicts four different type of cables located right under each other.
Transparency is used to give the user a feeling of depth. A pipe or cable that is constructed close to the ground surface will be less transparent than a pipe or cable that is constructed far below ground level. Additionally, a straight line, with ticks at a fixed distance, will help the user to understand at what depth the pipe or cable is located.
